Parents have enough to worry about when the school year rolls around…school supplies, homework, bullies, soccer practice, etc. With all these pressing concerns approaching with the beginning of the school year, parents shouldn’t have to worry about the wholesomeness of their child’s school lunch program. But, last week’s 400 ton recall of meat tainted with antibiotic-resistant Salmonella from Beef Packers Inc, may give them something else to worry about. That is because Beef Packers, Inc. is providing the some of the beef to our National School Lunch Program.
If President Obama is worried about his kids’ peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, he should also be concerned about the hundreds of thousands of American children who could have potentially been served meat tainted with an especially virulent strain of antibiotic-resistant Salmonella. Since Beef Packers, Inc. won’t reveal their ground beef wholesale buyers, we can only hope that schools weren’t on any of Beef Packers Inc. distribution lists.
